Special Enrollment Period Completed

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was signed by the President on March 23, 2010. The law requires plans to offer coverage to adult children of covered members until age 26, even if the young adult is no longer living with his or her parents, is not a dependent on a parent’s tax return, is no longer a student, or is married. The State of Montana is voluntarily offering this benefit before the implementation date required by the PPACA.

Dependents that were previously deleted or were not eligible to enroll in State Plan coverage because they were 25 years old or were married are being given a special enrollment opportunity. This special enrollment period excludes dependents that were previously eligible for coverage but missed their original enrollment opportunity.

This limited enrollment period began July 1, 2010, and ended August 27, 2010. Members were able to choose an effective date for enrollment of July 1, 2010 or the first day of any pay period after that up to August 28, 2010. Retroactive benefit contributions may have applied depending on the effective date the member selected.
