New Employee Benefit Options
The State of Montana offers a competitive, comprehensive group insurance benefits program that includes medical, dental, and life insurance options, as well as the choice of other add-on benefits.
The state contribution, $590 per month in 2008, covers the cost of your "core" medical, dental, and basic life insurance. Additional coverage is available for yourself and your eligible dependents. These benefits are a large part of your compensation, and some benefits can only be guaranteed if you enroll within your initial enrollment period - the first 31 days of State employment or eligibility. Your coverage is effective on your date of hire or the first day of the pay period following receipt of the form in the Health Care and Benefits Division.
The State of Montana is a self-funded insurance group, which means that insurance is not purchased, but rather, the state and employee out-of-pocket insurance contributions are pooled and used to pay claims. Each member shares the responsibility of being a wise healthcare consumer, thereby containing costs and premium amounts as much as possible.
